Instructors that are ALD members can join the ALD OneMusic Australia Licence Register for an additional fee to play music at classes, socials and workshops, all venues, any day. An additional Digital Copy Fee is required and is calculated on average weekly attendances.
What does this all mean for you as an instructor?
OneMusic Australia is a joint Licencing initiative between APRA AMCOS and PPCA. It offers businesses a blanket licence that covers the copyright of millions of songs. While subscribing to a music streaming service or purchasing a CD allows you to play the music for personal enjoyment, it does not permit you to play it in a public or business setting. Whenever music is played or performed publicly, made available online or copied, that music use requires a licence.
The OneMusic Australia licence gives legal access to the majority of the world's music.
ALD administers a register, the ALD OneMusic Australia Register for Linedance Instructors. This allows the use of music for linedance activities ie classes, workshops and socials, any day and any venue.
Rates change from year to year depending on the CPI and the number of classes you hold.
An example ... an instructor has 3 classes weekly with an average weekly attendance of 40 dancers across the classes. Taking into account a few weeks off over the Christmas break and some students attend more than one class so her average weekly attendance is adjusted to 35 in this case. This instructor would pay the basic yearly fee + a Digital Copy Fee for 35 dancers.
If you think you should have a music licence and you don't currently have one, please contact us and our Membership Officer will help you out.
