I have been dancing for as long as I can remember, and all those memories have one thing in common, they always bring a smile to my face. Whether it be Highland, Irish, Tap, Clogging, Flamenco, West Coast Swing and of course Line Dance I have always had a passion for expressing myself through movement to music. Add to that the opportunity to inspire others, make lifelong friends and share remarkable experiences while traveling the world – what more could I possibly ask for?
I started line dancing in 1994 when Mum convinced me to attend a local class with her. At the time I was in my first year of university and had zero plans to actually go, but Mums persistent nagging paid off and along we went. Ironically, after this humble beginning I went on to win a title at the Queensland Line Dance Championship three months later, and Mum didn’t go back to a class for almost two years. Even at that point in time I could never have imagined what was to come…but it has been nothing short of remarkable. The opportunity to teach and compete in world titles in USA and UK, as well as Malaysia, New Zealand and throughout Australia was equally exciting and terrifying.
In 1999 “The Allstars” were born and this took my love of competition to the next level. As coach, choreographer and competitor I had the privilege of leading my team to nine Australian Team of the Year Championships. Ranging from 8 to 75 years of age, The Allstars are proof that you are never too young, or too old, to do amazing things, and with a dedicated and brave team by your side, anything is possible.
As well as teaching a weekly dance class, choreographing class dances, managing my competition team and sitting on numerous judging panels, I decided I wasn’t busy enough so took on the role of Event Director of the Winter Wipeout in 2001 – an event that I am proud to say continues to go from strength to strength, including adding The Australian Masters to our program in 2024.
I took on the role of President of the ALD 7 years ago as I believe that we all have a role to play in ensuring that the sport that we love, and those that make it possible, are supported and encouraged in meaningful ways. By providing an association that exists purely to promote line dancing throughout Australia and offers the opportunity for both competition and social dancers to feel included, it is hoped that our sport will only continue to flourish in the coming years.
I am proud to be part of the ALD and encourage you all to join us as it is only with your valuable support that we will continue to be able to invest in events throughout Australia.
With over 30 years of experience in his line dance journey Luke is now one of the few full time line dance instructors in Australia running over 10 classes per week, putting together some of the biggest line dance events on the calendar while also training people for competition- while competing himself. His wealth of knowledge for line dance as well as his success on the dance floor as a competitor sees him in demand at events around Australia and New Zealand as a triple threat - a competitor , judge and workshop instructor. With many accolades to his name as an instructor and for his choreography he continues to bring the joy to the dance floor where ever he is. He freely shares his ideas, knowledge for the benefit of the ALD committee to promote the organisation and believes in the principles that ALD sets out to achieve.
I started line dancing in 1993 with Australian Line Dance at the Imperial Hotel in Newton, and from that moment, I was hooked! The rhythm, movement, and community captivated me, and by 1994, I began teaching, never looking back.
Today, I am fortunate to travel across Australia, judging at competitions and sharing my passion for this incredible sport. When I'm not on the dance floor, I work as a nurse, a role that keeps me grounded and connected to people in meaningful ways.
One of my favorite memories is the joy of starting my own classes and watching my students grow in confidence, skill, and love for dancing. I’m also incredibly proud of becoming a world champion in Blackpool, UK – an achievement that will always be a highlight of my career.
Line dancing has been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for every step I’ve taken along the way!
I have always enjoyed dance having learned ballet, jazz, modern and classical, until I was 25yrs old. I had a few years away from dance when I started work as a physiotherapist, married my husband, Russell and had our 3 children. When my youngest, Rowan, was 2 years old I was keen to return to dancing and this was when Linedancing was becoming very popular.
I have been line dancing for 29 years and started teaching 18 years ago. My club is National Capital Bootscooters in the ACT. I conduct daytime and evening classes for all levels and hold socials monthly.
I have enjoyed competing at many Linedance Competitions including the ALDC, Mayworth, Winter Wipeout (QLD), NSW Open Championships, SSLDC (VIC). I was invited to join Southern Cross, a Sydney based Competition Team, in 2009 and continued in that team until 2019. I enjoyed the discipline of training, learning more involved routines and aiming to improve technique and the execution of steps.
Over the past 5 years I have choreographed several dances with Lu Olsen. We were honoured to receive an award for our dance ‘Piece by Piece’ at the Australian Line Dance Awards in 2023.
I am a committee member for the NSW Linedance Ball, held at Olympic Park each year, which raises funds for Ronald McDonald House. It is such a worthy cause and an honour to work with such a dedicated group of people.
I have been the Treasurer and Music Licence Coordinator for ALD since 2016. If you are an instructor and need more information regarding the OneMusic Licence, please contact me.
I am looking forward to more dancing fun in the years ahead.
I began line dancing in 1993 while still practicing other dance styles, but over time, line dancing became my true passion. After a few years, and with the prompt from Mum to "choose 1, Amy, I can't afford all the shoes!", I made the decision to focus entirely on line dance, leaving all other styles behind.
I’ve had the privilege of being a member of The Allstars for 21 years, which has deeply enriched my connection to the line dance community. Throughout my journey, I've accumulated countless memories and experiences—memories that could easily fill a book! One of my proudest moments was competing at the WDM World Dance Masters and achieving the title of World Champion.
I love everything about line dancing, from organizing events to training, competing, and, of course, social dancing. Along the way, I’ve met incredible people and visited amazing places. Line dancing has truly been a transformative and rewarding part of my life.
When I'm not dancing or organizing something dance-related, I work as a Medical Receptionist in a busy local GP practice. There’s never a dull moment there—the characters keep me entertained and on my toes all day!
I’m also the one behind all the Australian Line Dancer social media and websites. This is all pretty new to me—creating websites and content—so if you ever see a link that doesn't work or something that doesn't look quite right, please let me know!
Over the years, Donna has won numerous awards and accolades for her performances and contributions to the dance community.
I started line dancing at Wallacia Bowling Club in 2004, and it quickly became a passion of mine. Outside of dancing, my 9-5 job involves event setup and maintenance, which I absolutely love! The energy and variety of each event keep me motivated and engaged every day.
One of my fondest memories is traveling to Tamworth in January with my friends to watch them compete at Calrossy. Those were some of the best times, filled with excitement, friendship, and unforgettable moments.
